A tornado on the ground 3 to 4 miles north of Elk City has been reported by storm chasers, the National Weather Service said.A tornado warning has been issued for western Custer County and eastern Roger Mills County until 6 p.m. because of the storm, which is moving to the northeast.

On Aug 24, 2007, it was a hot summer day! Tornados to the west of us in the neighboring counties. Just a matter of time before the sirens sounded. This is the same storm that caused major damage in the Fenton, MI area, as well as creating a 4 hour rain delay at Comerica Park. The game started at 11pm, and due to extra innings was completed at 3:45am. Here is the actual warning statement from the national weather service: Issued at: 5:56 PM EDT 8/24/07, expires at: 6:45 PM EDT 8/24/07 The NWS in detroit/pontiac has issued a tornado warning for: oakland county in southeast michigan Until 645 pm edt At 553 pm edt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near seven lakes, or about 14 miles south of flint, moving east at 40 mph. The tornado will be near, holly state recreation area and 6 miles north of davisburg by 605 pm edt, ortonville by 610 pm edt, oxford, 7 miles north of lake orion and 8 miles north of bald mountain state recreation area by 625 pm edt, When a tornado warning is issued based on doppler radar, it means that strong rotation has been detected in the storm. A tornado may already be on the ground, or is expected to develop shortly. If you are in the path of a tornado, the safest place in a home or business is an interior room on the lowest floor possible. Avoid windows. A tornado watch was issued Friday afternoon for the entire Tampa Bay area and most of the state, according to the National Weather Service. The watch, which precedes a warning, last through about 9 p.m.
